NATO must not resort to military force without an appropriate authorization from the UN Security Council.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Saturday that the prospect of such action by the Western military alliance would encourage the countries' search for "convincing" countermeasures, which, in turn, would increase the risk of a global proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Russia warns that the recent statements by the West about a possible military intervention in other countries' domestic affairs without a proper UN mandate could undermine the whole basis of the existing world order.
